DESCRIPTION
A Victorian illustration of a serious-looking young woman, praying and looking downwards: the skeletal trees imply desolation and sorrow. From 'Nearer My God To Thee' by Sarah Flower Adams, published by Thomas Nelson & Sons in 1883. The book is named after the hymn reputedly played by the band of 'RMS Titanic' as she sank in 1912, which was written by the English poet and Unitarian hymn writer Sarah Flower Adams (1805-1848). The book is well-used and has fingerprints along the right edge of each page.
