Engraved by W. Holl from the original painting. Mirza Mohammed Ali Beg, or as he was also called, the Persian Convert was born in 1802 in the city of Derbant, in modern day Dagestan, Russia. He later converted from the muslim religion and became a christian, and was named at his Baptism Alexander Kazem Beg. Later in his life he was appointed professor of Oriental Languages in the University of Kazan. Digitally restored image of an original 19 century engraving published in 1845.
