The Monument to the Great Fire of London, which took place in 1666. Woodcut from “Pleasant Hours: A Monthly Journal of Home Reading and Sunday Teaching; Volume III” published by the Church of England’s National Society’s Depository, London, in 1863. The Monument was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke, and stands at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill, on the site of the first church to be destroyed in the Great Fire.
